Sandwich Neckline

Sandwich Neckline

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I did. My husband is home from the hospital, has gained 20 pounds after losing 130 pounds, and he is finally eating. I want to thank everyone that kept him in their thoughts and prayers. They worked. 🙂 I would especially like to thank my sister and brother in law for bringing all the trimmings for Thanksgiving to my house and putting our plans on hold until we knew if my husband would be home.  Thanks, sis.

Now, I can get a little knitting done. lol

I wanted to make a jacket for myself and started on this one awhile back. I had made it twice before and did not do a tension swatch. Well, don’t do as I do, do as I say. MAKE A TENSION SWATCH. After I started to knit this I remembered that the arms came out so long on my last two  jackets. Well, because the jacket is knitted sideways and started on wasted yarn , I was lucky to solve the problem. I only had to shorten the first sleeve because when you finish knitting you end on the other sleeve so I stopped knitting sooner. I don’t know if any of you know how to shorten knitting after it has been knitted. I went to the edge of the sleeve where I wanted to shorten it and cut the one black thread and the plum thread in the same row. Then you pull on both of those strands one at a time and then the excess  will drop off.(email me if you would like to see this done) I did that to match the other sleeve and then attached the cuffs. I decided on a 2 by 1 rib on the neck and bottom and knitted bands for the front and the cuffs. I did the “sandwich ” neck band . It fits me perfectly but only after adjusting the underarm bulk. I decreased the amount under the arms and it is so nice. So…..now that it is finished, I decided to give it to my sister. She is so appreciative of the things that I knit.(and I appreciate her!) She was ecstatic. It fit her beautifully. She is shorter than I am so the length really looks good on her. I am going to make her a felted purse with the fun fur since I have the color of fun fur to match the coat. And then possible a scarf.

This pattern is called the coat of many colors because you   can use a lot of the leftover yarns that you don’t know what to do with. I just used two colors so my coat is the coat of any color. I used Tamm Can Cun in Black and Plum and my Brother 940 electronic machine.

Passap E 6000 Wine Bottle Hat and Scarf Set

winebottlehatandscarfcombinationa

When it started to snow today I heard my wine bottle singing “Baby it’s cold outside”  So I had to do the only right thing I could think of. And that was to make a little hat and scarf for it. 🙂

Actually I was knitting a scarf for an order of the felted wine bottle cover with this scarf. So I looked at the scarf and wondered about a hat. It took me three tries to get it right. The second one would have been good except that I forgot to put the back bed pushers into position . The design came out but the piece was way larger.

I made the scarf long so it will wrap around the neck of the bottle two times. You can decide how long to make it if you try this. Here are my directions in my drop box if anyone wants to give it a go. Good experience if you are just learning. The pattern is 1259 and I used technique 188. If you have any questions, just email me.

Please do not sell this as your pattern. It is for your enjoyment with knitting on your machines.

Now I am off to have a glass of wine to shut this bottle up!

Heirloom Baby Jacket

Heirloombabyjacket

I am not that happy about  this jacket. The pattern is called Heirloom Baby Set by Designer Nell Abshire, the Afghan Queens. It is in the magazine Machine Knitters Source July/August 1998 Vol.15 No. 85.I feel it is too large from underarm area to underarm area. The little doll it is on has fat arms and hands so the sleeves are okay. I made this on the passap machine and used Estilo yarn by Tamm which is what the pattern called for . I did learn how to do the backward crochet which is something I never tried. The only thing I like about the jacket is the neck band. I would recommend that you try it using a swatch as the sweater . It is a very nice finish inside and out. There are pin tuck rows on the fronts and backs and at the tops of the sleeves. That was fun to try also. The jacket does not have much body. I wish I had used Diamonte or Tepeyac but it would have turned out even larger. lol Not sure I want to give this to my friend to give as a gift. I don’t even want to do the hat and booties. May do the hat. All of the lace pattern is hand manipulated .

Smaller Felted Pocket Purse

Felted pocket purse smallsize

This is the size I was working for. I made it the same as the last one except that I only cast on 24 stitches for the bottom. I added six stitches on the sides for the front only and knitted 52 rows. It will hold a cell phone, keys, credit cards without all the size and bulk. I used the Biscuits and Jam stripe generator web site that I love. Here is the link. If you want the complete written directions let me know. This is a great way to use up little bits of wool yarn left over from other projects. The finished size is 6 inches by 6 inches.

Felted Pocket Purse with Fun Fur Trim

Felted funfirpocketpursef

It is a rainy gloomy day here in Ohio and of course that tells me to go to my knitting room and get happy. I was tired of working on a baby jacket so I decided to do a quick project and I love the way it turned out. And….I guessed at the number of stitches and  rows to use.

I was in the store the other day and I saw a young girl with a small purse that her hand went through the opening and she held the cord. It did not hang down much where she was holding the cord. So off I go to try something. I was shooting for a little smaller so it was just a little bigger than a cell phone but I like this size. It is 8 inches wide and 8 inches high. There is a small loop on the front part of the purse and a longer loop on the back of the purse. The long loop goes through the small loop for closure.

I used Paton’s wool yarn. It takes a whole ball. The second color is called Pelt Pelt Red Fox.  I used the Bulky Brother Machine. I used 36 stitches and 62 rows. 20 rows are the top fairisle design. At first I just knitted the wool with the fun fur but it was too bulky and could not see if the stitches knitted off. So I did a fairisle design that is every other stitch on first row and every other opposite stitch on the next row. Brother I believe has a punch card for this. I entered it electronically on mine using four stitches and two rows. Took two seconds to do that.

The fun fur really shines and is so silky looking . It has black and the red in it. Hard to capture in a picture. The fun fur is called Pelt by Lion Brand and the color is Red Fox.

Here is the pattern I wrote up if you would like to try it. This purse looks elegant if you saw it here. It can also be cutesy with all the different yarns out there.

This pattern is not to be used for machine production or sold as your pattern.
